Hannah Kuplack

Art medium(s): A variety of drawing and painting mediums.

How do you describe your art? The art I create embodies a captivating blend of botanical elements, skeletal structures and animal imagery, expertly juxtaposed in a striking display of high contrast. By employing a minimalist color palette and the powerful interplay of black and white, my work evokes a sense of drama and intensity, drawing viewers into a visually immersive experience.

Were you always interested in following a creative path? Being an artist runs in my bloodline, just like my mother. Over the years, my artistic expression has evolved, yet one thing has remained constant—I have always stayed true to my identity as an artist.

What does your “day-in-the-life” as an artist look like? Regardless of the season or my professional commitments as an art teacher, my life as an artist revolves around the continuous act of creating. Whether it’s during the school year or summer break, I dedicate time to my craft, immersing myself in the process. While I work on my art, I find joy in accompanying it with the rhythm of music or the captivating narratives of audiobooks. Additionally, I cherish the moments when I can connect with friends, either in person or virtually, as we share in the creative journey. During my personal time, I indulge in the delightful experience of dining out, savoring sushi while my artistic ideas flow. At home, the presence of my beloved little dog Thor provides a constant source of companionship and inspiration, making each artistic endeavor all the more meaningful.

Where do you get your creative inspiration? My wellspring of inspiration is deeply rooted in nature, drawing from its boundless beauty and intricate wonders. Furthermore, I find inspiration in the works of fellow artists, as their creativity sparks new ideas and fuels my own artistic growth.

Why do you love what you do? The act of creating art resonates with me on a profound level because it feels like an inherent part of my being. It taps into my natural instinct to bring something new into existence, allowing me to express myself authentically. When I engage in artistic endeavors, I experience a profound sense of alignment with my true self, as if I am fully embracing and embodying who I am meant to be.

One thing most people don’t know about being an artist: Being an artist involves more than just creating artwork. It often requires a deep understanding of various artistic techniques, materials and art history, as well as the continuous exploration and development of one’s skills. Additionally, artists often face challenges such as self-doubt, creative blocks and the need to balance artistic expression with the demands of the market and audience expectations. The process of creating art can be a deeply personal and vulnerable experience, requiring resilience, adaptability and a constant drive for self-improvement.

Early bird or night owl? While I am naturally a night owl, my career as an artist and teacher prevents me from indulging in sleeping in too late, as I embrace the opportunities of the day to create and share my artistic passion.
Dog or cat person? While I have a deep affection for all animals, dogs hold a special place in my heart.
Is the glass half full or half empty? For me, the glass is always half full, as my creative mindset and passion drive me to see opportunities and possibilities in every situation.
What makes you happiest? What makes me happiest is a harmonious combination of my art, the solace found in books, the unwavering companionship of my dog and the cherished moments spent with my beloved family and friends.
