Art medium(s): Acrylic
How do you describe your art? Whimsical, colorful and happy.
Were you always interested in following a creative path? Yes, I’ve always followed a creative path! I don’t remember a time that I wasn’t creative. I have been drawing, painting and making jewelry since I was a child. I have a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from UWSP and I minored in art. I left the interior design world in 1988 to stay home and raise my kids. It was then that I started my art career from home.
What does your “day-in-the-life” as an artist look like? My days are pretty unstructured. They are a mix of art, doing laundry, making meals, playing with my dogs, etc. Some days my art consists of prepping surfaces, completing orders, answering emails, managing my Etsy shop, finding inspiration as well as actually painting. Since I work from home, there are a lot of distractions so I really have to get myself organized if I want to spend any significant time actually painting. My holiday season is definitely my busiest time of the year! The orders are already starting to come in from my Etsy shop. My personalized family ornaments are my biggest seller for the holidays, but my painted wine glasses are a close second.
Where do you get your creative inspiration? My creative inspiration comes from many places. I am definitely inspired by a really good color palette. With my interior design background, I always think about how my art can have a place inside someone’s home and how it will fit.
Why do you love what you do? I love what I do because I am full of creative energy. It’s always there. This is the perfect outlet for me since it combines my love for art and interior design and I can do it on my own time.
One thing most people don’t know about being an artist: It takes a lot of courage for an artist to show their work to people and to put it out for the public to critique. It’s a very personal thing.
Early bird or night owl? Definitely a night owl. I wish I was an early bird!
Dog or cat person? Dog! I currently have two collies and I doggy sit for my son’s collie puppy.
Is the glass half full or half empty? I’d say half full.
What makes you happiest: My husband, kids, grandkids and my dogs. I feel very fortunate to have them in my life and I don’t take that for granted.
