What’s Going On? The Weekend Preview (2/21-2/24)

Just because the weather may be unpredictable this weekend – it looks like the worst of these latest storms will miss the Fox Cities – that’s no reason you still can’t plan for a great weekend.

There are plenty of reliable options for a good time.

If it’s a culinary adventure you crave, there will be dining for a good cause at Cultural Cuisine 2014. The annual fundraise for Fox Valley Technical College’s Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management program gives you a chance to sample the creations of up and coming chefs.

Those from FOX CITIES Magazine who attended the preview event say be prepared to eat well if you are able to get tickets for the event, which in past years has been a sellout. The talented chefs in the FVTC culinary program will present some great dishes, including a Gazpacho Shooter with a Fresh Mozzarella Skewer or an Asian and Shrimp Dumpling or Cured Beef with Peas and Rice.

You can find out more at the FVTC event page.

Of course, Wicked is in the middle of its three-week run here in the Fox Cities. Tickets are still available for many of the shows. When you see it, you’ll understand why it’s returned to the area so often and attracted both new and repeat fans.

Wicked runs every night through Sunday, and again next week Tuesday through Sunday, including both matinee and evening shows on Saturday and Sunday.

Don’t forget Jazz @ The Trout. Tonight’s performance is by Tom Gullion & Friends.

Want to spend some time outdoors? Many area nature centers have snowshoe and skiing trails open. Ledgeview does a guided snowshoe hike at 1 p.m. on Sundays. Ski and snowshoe trails at Bubolz Nature Preserve are open during daylight hours. Equipment rental is also available.

Navarino Nature Center in Schiocton has a candlelight hike Saturday night.

If you’d rather wait until the mercury rises before taking on the great outdoors again, there are plenty of indoor performances, events and classes to pack your datebook with. You can start Saturday morning at the indoor farmers market and see where the rest of the weekend takes you.

Check it out @ FOX CITIES Magazine online calendar.
