“Autumn Mist”

This iconic sculpture by celebrated artist Dallas Anderson of Neenah is a recognizable local landmark in Appleton. “I knew instantly that it was City Park and I like the history behind it,” Jeni Strom said. The judges were impressed by Feavel’s use of light to highlight the texture of the tree leaves above the fountain. “Walking into the park, I noticed that the late day afternoon sun was combining with the high winds to create an interesting mist around the figures in the fountain,” Feavel says. “The photo was taken with Telephoto to get a close view of the water and mist on the figurines without misting the lens.” Palmer found the image evoked a positive mood. “There’s something about the fountain and the children that reminds me of hope,” she said.
