Intern Intro: Kate

Meet Kate, our newest editorial intern who plays ice hockey, loves a good coffee shop and disposes of spiders upon request.

Name: Kate Youdell
Age: 21
Hometown: Lake Bluff, IL
School attending: Lawrence University, class of 2019

Tell us about your background:

I am an English major, minoring in Spanish, psychology, and creative writing. I’m passionate about creative (fiction) writing and hope to pursue it as a career!

Why did you want to be an intern at FCM?

Working at a magazine gives me an opportunity to better understand how content gets published, from the writing process to editing to publication, and the content in FOX CITIES is great to write about.

What’s your favorite thing about the Fox Cities?

The coffeeshops, they’re the perfect places for homework sessions or just to hang out with friends.

The last book you read:

Book of Life by Deborah Harkness, of the All Souls Trilogy

Last movie you watched:

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before! My little cousins wanted to watch it and I was hooked.

Any hidden talents?

More of a hobby, but I play ice hockey! I can skate pretty well. Otherwise, I bake a mean chocolate chip cookie. And I kill all the spiders for my roommates.

What can’t you live without?

My friends, family and my dogs.

What’s the biggest risk you ever took?

Studying abroad in London for a term, learning how to live on my own in a new country and adapting to a new place.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

“Don’t be your own obstacle” – my dad

Describe your perfect Saturday:

Spending all day at a coffeeshop with a good book, then dinner with friends!
