Unsure of what to do this spring? The Fox Valley Food Truck Rally has you covered.

After an unofficial group of food trucks came together last year, they decided to make it an annual and official event, creating a committee of food truck members that will bring a big city experience to the Fox Cities.

“We have a total of 19 trucks on our roster and we’re going to keep it at 10 trucks per rally. We want to make sure everyone has a chance to showcase their trucks,” says Kyle Fritz, committee member and vendor of Looy’s Dogs.

There will be a host of events throughout the summer, but the April event is going to be unique.

“Our first rally is the 30 of April from 10:30 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. We’re gearing up at the Appleton Family Ice Center, in Memorial Park. 95.9 Kiss FM is going to be broadcasting live so they’ll have DJ’s there and Appleton Family Ice Center will be having open skating that day,” explains Fritz.

The committee is hoping to continue to grow the rally and to bring it to surrounding communities, but for this summer, the rotation will be bi-weekly between Jefferson Park in Menasha and Pierce Park in Appleton.

While this is only the second year, it is projected to be a big hit in the Fox Cities community.

“We had 2,500-5,000 people last year. We’re teaming with people in the area to help promote exposure. For the Appleton Ice Arena itself, a lot of people don’t know they exist and have open skating. That’s good exposure,” explains Fritz.

One of the Food Truck Rally’s goals is to bring the community together.

“It’s just a fun family thing to do,” says Denise Schmalzer, vendor of Hawg Tyed BBQ. “It’s a good way to spend the afternoon and try different foods and see what’s out there. We, all of us, offer a lot of other services that people might not know of, like catering and doing special events. People can see what kind of food we all have and prices are good.”

Part of the draw of the Food Truck Rally is its uniqueness.

“You can go to a restaurant all day long, but you don’t always have the opportunity to go get the specific food from specific vendors. They’re not always open to the public,” says Fritz.

“We have some new vendors this year so it’s going to be a little different group of people than we had last year,” explains Schmalzer.

The food truck lineup for the kick-off rally includes Hawg Tyed BBQ, Inferno Subs, Pizza Fromage, On the Fritz Concessions, The Dog House, Mr. Taco, ABC Pig Roast, Savage Henry’s, Kona Ice and Tamara’s.
