Instructor C.J. Guzan teaches students how to create finished comics and cartoons using the creative process and various tools. C.J. personalizes the class for each student, working with everyone individually throughout the week to find, develop, and complete a designated number of comics by the end of the day! The class will focus on creating at least one well-developed and fully polished comic by the end of the class (However, 1-4 excellent comics by the end of the day is not uncommon). The comics and cartoons drastically vary from student to student, as is the purpose. C.J.’s methods encourage students to try new ideas, change perspectives, and develop individual thoughts and styles. Each student that takes this class will walk away from the experience having started with a small idea, and developing it into something tangible and real. Students will primarily use graphite, ink, and colored pencils.

Camp Dates: Monday, June 12 – Friday, June 16
Time: 9 AM – 12 PM | 6-11 yrs + 1 PM – 4 PM | 12-18 yrs
Price: $185 Non-Member | $148 Member

C.J. Guzan began teaching Comics & Cartoons in the summer of 2014, immediately following his graduation from the St. Norbert College Fine Art Program (Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Graphic Design, Photography, & Film). His relevant work includes multiple popular comic strips, album cover artwork, and thousands of drawings of all sorts (some of which have been published in international magazines). C.J. has taught Comics & Cartoons every year since 2014! He is the Corporate Education Director for the Interchange Theater Co-op in downtown Milwaukee (C.J. designs & curates workshops, trains performers, and performs in traveling Improv Shows), and is a professional Improviser and Actor. He is consistently performing in commercials for numerous industries, the most notable commercial of late being for Cousins Subs, where C.J. is excited to buy TWO sandwiches! C.J. & Allyson (His best friend and wife) also welcomed their first child, Theo, into the world on August 16th, 2021! C.J. takes care of Theo during the day while working at home, and Allyson teaches her Kindergarten class just down the road from their house. If there is one thing that C.J. thoroughly enjoys doing every year, it is teaching Comics & Cartoons. The opportunity to take part in the creative process with so many skilled and imaginative students is nothing short of soul-fulfilling! C.J. takes pride in his individualized teaching method he’s developed over the last 10 years, and is excited to see what amazing work this year’s students will create!
