The Neenah Public Library is very excited to announce “What Folksongs Tell Us about Work in Wisconsin” as part of the Wisconsin Humanities Council’s Working Lives Project. Join public folklorist and Rice Lake native Jim Leary Thursday, December 1st at 6:30 pm as he discusses class, culture, work and traditional Wisconsin songs. This talk includes historic and contemporary field and studio recordings of Irish and French Canadian lumberjacks, Finnish and Croatian miners, Potawatomi and Norwegian ironworkers, Italian and Mexican farmhands, and Polish and Hmong factory workers to illustrate continuity, change, and commonality in the folksongs of Wisconsin’s workers. Wisconsin history enthusiasts and music lovers will be sure to enjoy this event. No registration required.
