The YWCA Green Bay is proud to announce the offering of a women’s self-defense course in honor of Heesun “Sunny” and Sabrina Teague at the YWCA this fall. The course will be offered free of charge to women in the community.

Sunny and her daughter Sabrina were killed in a domestic disturbance in June of 2016. Their freinds and family hope this class will not honor their loved ones but help women gain self-worth and feel safe in their daily lives. 1 in 3 women have been victims of physical violence, rape or stalking by an intimate partner within their lifetime.

The course will be taught by Sunny’s friend, Aikido instructor Susan Dutton from Green Bay Aikikai. The 10-session program will give students the tools and confidence to defend themselves against an attack while learning about attack methods used by assailants Named after Sunny, the class intends to show all women they can be Strong, Unarmed, Not intimidated, Never defenseless, because it’s Your body.

“For 97 years the YWCA Greater Green Bay has met the changing needs and issues facing women through programs and services to educate, inspire and support families,” said Kay Baranczyk, CEO of the YWCA Greater Green Bay. “This self-defense class is a great example of community partnerships designed to carry forth our mission of empowering women.”

The course is limited to 50 students. Sign up by calling YWCA Greater Green Bay.
