This collaboration between avant-garde composer Philip Glass and renowned beat poet Allen Ginsberg provides a portrait of America from the 1950s to the 1980s. Based upon Ginsberg’s personal poems, it looks at a variety of social issues, including the anti-war movement, drugs, Eastern philosophy and the sexual revolution. “Hydrogen Jukebox” was first performed in 1990 in Charleston, S.C.
