The final Lawrence Symphony Orchestra concert of the academic year features a student soloist, a world premiere faculty composition and a beloved symphony. Senior Cameron Pieper, co-winner of the LSO concerto competition, performs Prokofiev’s Concerto No. 3 for Piano. The orchestra premieres “Libera me, Domine” written by Gene Biringer, associate professor of music at Lawrence. The program concludes with Carl Nielsen’s popular Symphony No. 4. Subtitled “The Inextinguishable,” the work, according to Nielsen, “expresses what we understand by the spirit of life.” The concert is part of the Music Beyond Borders fundraising effort. Freewill donations will support orphans in TianJin, China with the gift of music lessons. Free and open to the public.
