Steeped in Scandinavian tradition, Fyr Bal (pronounced “feer ball”) is Norwegian for bonfire. The festival recreates customs of early Scandinavian settlers celebrating the summer solstice. A full day of activities include everything from shoe carving demonstrations to the Chieftain Ceremony featuring Scandinavian dancers, and varieties of food and music will fill the stomachs and ears of guests all day and night. Evening bonfires along the shoreline symbolize the burning of the winter witch and the arrival of summer. Fireworks cap the day around 9:30 pm.
