Senegal native Aly Wane, an undocumented organizer living in Syracuse, N.Y., delivers the address “Those Who Have Been Left Out” as the keynote speaker at this year’s community celebration commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King’s life and legacy. Wane’s message will focus on the need for a better understanding of the concept of citizenship and global citizenship. He works with the Syracuse Peace Council, the Black Alliance for Just Immigration and the Undocumented and Black Network, among others. The celebration also will feature live musical performances, the presentation of two community awards and readings by the three student winners of the annual MLK essay contest. A free reception for all in attendance immediately follows the program. Free and open to the public.
