The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay welcomes organic farmer and educator Christine Welcher as the keynote speaker for its Food Day Celebration in the Phoenix Room of the University Union.
Welcher, a farm manager and educator at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy, Wis., will speak about the condition of farming in Wisconsin and how taking chances can lead to great outcomes. Welcher brings a passion for food and an understanding of the need to make quality, local, organic food more available and convenient for the average family. Her focus has been on value-added products. A locally sourced dessert and refreshments will be provided at 7 p.m.
Welcher’s talk follows a full day of Food Day activities followed by a locally sourced dessert and refreshment social at UW-Green Bay, all of which are open to the public. Other events include the following:
• Presentations by local businesses, farmers and restaurants, 1-3 p.m.
• Food, Health and Sustainability Expo, 3-6 p.m.
• Free, farm-to-table community dinner, 5-6 p.m.
