Catching Fire Online Auction

Posted on June 8, 2021 by Cody Wiesner

The Bergstrom-Mahler Museum of Glass’ “Catching Fire” online glass art auction will offer 50 glasswork pieces and 20 VIP experiences as a way to support the museum’s educational programing and the local arts community.

“You’ll have an opportunity to peruse internationally known artists that work in a variety of different [art styles] as well as remarkable experiences,” says Amy Moorefield, Bergstrom-Mahler executive director.

The auction is this year’s replacement for what would have been the museum’s 47th Annual Arts Festival, which was canceled in line with public health guidance for COVID-19, says Moorefield.

The auction will feature works of art from Victor Trabucco, Paul Harrie, and Lino Tagliapietra. Tagliapietra is a world-renowned contemporary glass artist who has been active for over 70 years. The VIP experiences will include a shopping experience in the gallery, private classes and more. “Another [experience] is date night at the museum where you and your significant other can come for a private tour behind the scenes,” says Moorefield.

As a way to support artists, the museum will split all proceeds from the auction with artists’ whose works will be on display.

“We want to be equitable and highlight artists and support them,” Moorefield says.

The auction will be livestreamed on Event.gives, an online auction platform. The list of artwork and experiences on auction goes live on June 2. The live auction will be on June 9 at 6:45 p.m., and a silent auction runs from June 2-12, with results being announced at the end of the event.

“Some people may join just for the live auction and then look and see there are all these other amazing offers out there, will still have an opportunity to bid as well,” Moorefield says.
