SUMMARY:MARQUIS HILL – Sweet Surrender Trio
DESCRIPTION:6:00 & 8:00 Showtimes | Info & Tickets at JazzCoterie.com \nA Thelonious Monk Competition Winner! Trumpeter Marquis Hill is an internationally acclaimed artist and composer. Marquis emerged from the Chicago’s celebrated jazz community before establishing his career as a bandleader and recording artist. Hill’s music reflects his belief that musical boundaries are ultimately artificial. Jazz\, hip-hop\, R&B\, Chicago house\, and neo-soul all inform a distinctive approach defined by lyrical trumpet playing\, rhythmic depth and an expansive view of improvisation and composition. \nMarquis Hill’s trio is on a 14-stop Midwest Jazz Collective tour supporting his 2026 release (Beautifulism) Sweet Surrender\, issued on his own Black Unlimited Music Group imprint. With the Sweet Surrender Trio\, Marquis reimagines that musical world through this intimate\, highly interactive ensemble. With Micah Collier on bass and Jillian Upshaw on drums\, the trio leaves ample room for improvisation\, rhythmic exploration and spontaneous interaction. \nThis Midwest Jazz Collective tour is supported in part by Copernicus Foundation Music Grant Program through Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin.
