The Sounds of Success

The Appleton Boychoir will celebrate more than three decades of success when they perform their 35th Spring Concert on May 3.

Monday afternoon, the group’s Ambassador Choir gave a short preview of the event during a short performance at the Trout Museum of Art. The choir worked through a shortened program featuring several songs that will be part of the spring show, minus the choreography and costuming that will compiment the songs from Oliver!, the musical adaptation of Charles Dicken’s Oliver Twist.

Using the grand staircase of the art museum as risers, the sounds of the choir easily filled the gallery. They also had some fun, performing songs they sing around the fire at camp as part of the program.

The anniversary concert will be the boychoir’s final event for this season. They will go on hiatus for the summer before resuming rehearsals in the fall. That break should give new Executive Director Hilary Armstrong a chance to catch her breath and prepare for the new season.

The spring concert will take place in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel. The singing starts at 4 p.m.

The Appleton Boychoir was Founded in 1979 by Austin Boncher, James Heiks and Frank Rippl, and has grown to include over 150 members. The group has toured extensively through the years, making appearances with choirs and orchestras both across the country and internationally.

They are one of the only standalong boychoir’s in the region, and a unique Appleton institution.
