Intern Intro: Kate
Meet Kate, our nature-loving editorial intern with a hidden talent for hat making.
Name: Kate Morton
Age: 21
Hometown: Verona, WI
School attending: Lawrence University (2018)
Tell us about your background: I grew up with my family in a rural area outside of my hometown. I have two younger brothers, Will and David. I have always loved reading and writing and I am currently pursuing a BA in English from Lawrence University.
Why did you want to be an intern at FCM?
I wanted to learn more about working at a magazine after having a little bit of exposure at a previous internship. I heard from other students at Lawrence that FCM had a great internship program and thought it would be a good experience for me.
What’s your favorite thing about the Fox Cities?
I like that there are so many different and interesting people. It is cool to see how everyone came here and what they do and I am looking forward to getting more engaged with the community over this summer.
The last book you read: I read a collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury.
Last movie you watched: A Trevor Noah comedy special on Netflix.
Any hidden talents? I learned how to knit this winter so I can make hats now.
What can’t you live without? My journal.
What’s the biggest risk you ever took? Going to college and leaving home—it turned out great, but it was intimidating at the time.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Stay humble.
Describe your perfect Saturday: Getting lunch at a nice restaurant with friends and going to the zoo.
Stay tuned for Kate’s upcoming blog series exploring the best Fox Cities nature spots.
