Over the years the GOP has moved from wonderful to weird. This book is an honest look at the Republican Party from its founding in 1854 in Ripon to Ron Johnson’s role on January 6th 2021 and more. The goals and actions of early Republicans make a striking contrast to those of the present. The book contains notable figures such as Abe Lincoln, Frederick Douglass and “Fighting” Bob La Follette followed by notorious figures such as Joe McCarthy and Scott Walker. It contains key moments in Wisconsin history such as the first gay rights bill in the nation, Foxconn, fake electors and much more.
While some might rush to brush aside a history text in coloring book form, we live in an era when comedic journalism and social media are often primary forms of information. There is much to learn in this volume.
