On the heels of its 2018 DownBeat magazine award as the nation’s top collegiate large jazz ensemble, the Lawrence University Jazz Ensemble closes its 2017-18 season playing charts in a wide variety of styles: Latin, rock, funk, swing, shuffle and folk/pop. Highlights include a guest performance by Lawrence’s jazz faculty on the Latin tune “Veneros” and the world premiere of “Hemisphere,” written by Lawrence student Nathan Glaser. The program includes tunes by Steeley Dan (“Two Against Nature”), the Rolling Stones (“Wild Horses”) and the Benny Carter big-band classic “The Trot.” Free and open to the public.
