Julie Brefczynski-Lewis, a neuroscientist at West Virginia University’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, discusses emerging technology for conducting brain scans that eliminates the need to be perfectly still or that can only image the surface of the brain. A prototype of a new wearable neuroimaging tool that uses a small, but highly sensitive Positron Emission Tomography (PET) detector moves with the head, so the subject can be upright and mobile, including walking. The wearable PET has potential applications for stroke recovery, social cognition and virtual reality environments.
