Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for almost every album she has released in the past 20 years. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument.
“A serious jazz artist who takes the whole enterprise to another level.” — The New York Times
Tierney grew up in Milwaukee, received a BA from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. But it was the summer after her first year in college singing as a “Heidel Honey” at the Heidel House Resort in Green Lake, Wisconsin where Ms. Sutton claims to have first discovered jazz.
Today, Tierney Sutton juggles a busy touring and production schedule splitting her time between homes in Los Angeles and Paris with Parisian guitarist-arranger Serge Merlaud.
Tierney has toured throughout the world and headlined at Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, and Jazz at Lincoln Center. In 2016 Tierney was approached by Director Clint Eastwood. The original score to his box-office hit, “Sully,” was created by Tierney’s pianist, Christian Jacob, The Tierney Sutton Band, and Clint Eastwood.
“Her scatting boasts a clean airborne quality, and the lady can swing.” — Variety
When she is not performing, she’s in demand as a producer and vocal educator. Tierney taught for over a decade at USC’s Thornton School of Music and spent 6 years as the Vocal Department Head at The Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, CA. She has mentored some of the finest new generation of singers including Gretchen Parlato and Sara Gazarek.
