Worth the Drive: Shawano
Three Great Stays
Shawano County Park & Campground
For outdoorsy types, Shawano County Park offers 100 campsites for rent. The campground sits on the shores of Shawano Lake and offers natural beauty combined with many amenities for a comfortable camping trip. Picnic tables, a large sandy beach (and pet beach!), barbecue grills and public shelters make it a great spot for family gatherings. Campers also have access to the boat launch. New in 2018 is a fish cleaning station on the lakeshore. For a unique night’s rest, rent one of the park’s camping teepees.
The Mielke Cottage
The Mielke Cottage was built in 1903 by a local dentist, Frank Edward Mielke, and was used as the family’s vacation home for generations. In 2003, the cottage was modernized with a 900-square-foot addition and is now available for vacation rentals. To maintain the character of the original building, the addition used native Hemlock trees custom-milled to the dimensions used a century prior. The lakefront home is located east of Shawano County Park and can accommodate up to nine guests.
Shawano Four Seasons Resort
Located less than a mile from Shawano Lake and just steps from Mountain Bay Trail, this resort is ideal for outdoorsmen and women looking for adventure. After a day outdoors, take a dip in the area’s largest pool atrium, relax in the lounge or dine at the full-service restaurant onsite. The resort offers 86 spacious guest rooms and a new three-season patio for outside seating. Guests appreciate the large parking lot that can easily accommodate trailers and boats.
