When it comes to home design, everyone’s a voyeur. Ever catch yourself slowing down to get a better look at that new construction? Do you daydream about what lies beyond a pair of great reclaimed wood double doors? Well, voyeurs rejoice! The 2016 Summer Parade of Homes is your opportunity to snoop like nobody’s watching. Because they aren’t. In fact, snooping is encouraged.

This year the Home Builders Association of the Fox Cities (HBA Fox Cities) has brought together 30 new, and three remodeled, homes by 28 local builders for the viewing pleasure of patrons around the Valley. The Parade of Homes is taking place August 13–14 and 18–21, with remodeling projects being shown August 19–21.

One of the benefits of the parade experience, says Megan Schlimm, director of marketing and events at HBA Fox Cities, is the ability to meet multiple builders at one time. Each builder or a representative will always be on hand to answer questions, Schlimm says.

Rustic designs, open concept layouts and cathedral ceilings are just a few of the hot trends you can expect to see at this year’s Summer Parade of Homes. Whether you’re looking to build a new home, remodel your current living space or simply check out the latest interior design trends, the parade has something for you.

Upon arrival, visitors will enter through the garage of each home where they will be asked to remove their shoes and step into a pair of booties before entering the home. Once inside, guests are free to explore each home at their own pace during a self-guided tour. Homes may be decorated, partially decorated, furnished or partially furnished.

Tickets can be purchased at the HBA Fox Cities office or foxcitiesparadeofhomes.com. Each ticket grants one-time admission to all homes on the tour. Visit them in any order and feel free to split them up among all the days of the event.

Parade of Homes Tour Tips

1. Do your homework. Head to foxcitiesparadeofhomes.com to get a sneak peek of the show home renderings and floor plans to find out which homes interest you most. Check back again on August 8 to find the addresses for each home and plan your route. Remember: touring hours are 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. on the weekends and 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. on the weekdays, so plan your route and include time for a bite to eat at a restaurant along the way.

2. Connect with the free app. Search “HBAFC” in any Android or iOS app store to download the Parade of Homes app. Once downloaded, choose which homes you’d like to visit to create a custom route to reach all your top destinations with turn-by-turn directions. Refine your search by number of bedrooms, bathrooms, price range and more. Take notes about each home within the app, rate the homes and even post to social media using #foxcitiesparade.

3. Have fun! The Parade of Homes is meant for anyone who has a love for design, an interest in decoration or a curiosity about homebuilding – from casual shoppers to serious buyers. This is a time for builders to showcase their skills and visitors to enjoy their hard work. Dress comfortably, keep a bottle of water in your car (touring can be tiring), ask questions and don’t forget to have fun.
