Q. What is the best soundtrack when you are in the kitchen? — Spencer, Appleton

A. Spencer, thank you for your question. My first response would be to ask “Does ESPN’s Sports Center count?”

One of the best things I had done in our home is to put a small flat screen in the kitchen. Particularly in the fall, I enjoy watching the football pregame shows, as well as the actual football games themselves, while cooking. The other nice thing is that you never miss a play when you need to check on things in the kitchen! At my home if the Packers, Badgers or Brewers are playing, you’ll probably find the game on somewhere.

To answer your question, I grew up in the ‘80s and I have an obvious bias that the ’80s produced the best music around. I am not all that partial to any one artist or group, so I tend to enjoy a variety of music while cooking.

More often than not my wife and I tune into some of our favorite local radio stations, but I would have to say that our favorite artists and groups include Boston (my wife’s favorite), Journey, Aerosmith, The Eagles, STYX, REO Speedwagon, Van Halen, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Bob Seeger and Billy Joel. It’s hard not to appreciate the talent these artists have and what they bring to our lives, right?
