SUMMARY:B2wins- Farewell to The Grand (For Now)
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an AfterGlow in The Grand Lounge featuring Natural Satellite!\nIt’s farewell (for now) to two of The Grand’s most popular entertainers of the last decade\, as the Brazilian Twins – B2wins—have announced their move back to their native Brazil\, after calling Iowa “home” for decades. \nIt’s also farewell (for now) for The Grand itself\, as the theatre is scheduled to close for renovation\, after this performance. The shows move on the road as the theatre complex is transformed and reinvented\, all while retaining its look and charm as Wisconsin’s Oldest Theatre building. \nIn the heart of the most dangerous slums of Rio de Janeiro\, twin brothers Walter and Wagner Caldas grew up the sunny slums of Niteroi\, juxtaposed against a world of violence\, poverty\, and despair. Yet\, in the midst of this chaos\, they found something that would change their lives forever: music. Their father\, a hard-working luthier\, handcrafted two violins by hand—two instruments that would carry them out of the darkness. \nAt just 13\, they began performing. Word quickly spread\, and soon they were no longer just a pair of boys from the slums; they were icons\, their music a beacon of hope and resilience. But their story didn’t stop there. The breakthrough came in 2006\, when their story was featured on National Public Radio\, leading to a life-changing offer: full-ride music scholarships to the United States. From the streets of Rio to the grand stages of the world\, their journey had begun. The Twins deliver more than just music—they embody a story of resilience\, passion\, and the unbreakable bond between brothers.

We can trace their history back to the famous battles of the American Civil War\, to the island of Puerto Rico during the Spanish-American War\, and to the trenches of France during World War I. Our presentation will follow this unit when it was attached to the famed 32nd “Red Arrow” Division\, as they fought in the hills and jungles of the Pacific during WWII. Join us as we celebrate and honor our local heroes during this bloody conflict. \nPresented by Joe Gaerthofner \nJoe Gaerthofner was raised in Appleton and is a graduate of Xavier High School. He received his BS from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and works in sales at Nordon Business Environments\, a local company started by his Grandfather Norbert in 1957. Joe works alongside his father\, Jim\, and brother\, Andy. Joe has a passion for history\, particularly as it relates to Appleton and Wisconsin. Over the years\, he has enjoyed writing articles about local history\, teaching history to homeschool groups\, and leading walking tours at Riverside Cemetery in an effort to shine a light on Appleton’s proud military tradition.
