It’s farewell (for now) to two of The Grand’s most popular entertainers of the last decade, as the Brazilian Twins – B2wins—have announced their move back to their native Brazil, after calling Iowa “home” for decades.
It’s also farewell (for now) for The Grand itself, as the theatre is scheduled to close for renovation, after this performance. The shows move on the road as the theatre complex is transformed and reinvented, all while retaining its look and charm as Wisconsin’s Oldest Theatre building.
In the heart of the most dangerous slums of Rio de Janeiro, twin brothers Walter and Wagner Caldas grew up the sunny slums of Niteroi, juxtaposed against a world of violence, poverty, and despair. Yet, in the midst of this chaos, they found something that would change their lives forever: music. Their father, a hard-working luthier, handcrafted two violins by hand—two instruments that would carry them out of the darkness.
At just 13, they began performing. Word quickly spread, and soon they were no longer just a pair of boys from the slums; they were icons, their music a beacon of hope and resilience. But their story didn’t stop there. The breakthrough came in 2006, when their story was featured on National Public Radio, leading to a life-changing offer: full-ride music scholarships to the United States.
