Intern Intro: Kacie

Name: Kacie Mischer Bass
Age: 31
Hometown: Kaukauna
School graduated: UW-Madison 2010

Tell us about your background:  I’ve always been interested in the creative arts; as a kid, I loved watching behind-the-scenes special features on all my DVDs. I started photographing my life in 2007 and have hardly put down a camera since. I am in the process of doing my third Project 365 (a picture a day for a year). In college, I worked as student crew at Wisconsin Public Television, and running the huge cameras was the best! I currently work as a graphic artist, and have a travel blog just for fun.

Why did you want to be an intern at FCM? Magazine publishing combines many of my interests: photography, design, story-telling and documenting local life. An internship is a perfect way for me to get to know a new industry.

What’s your favorite thing about the Fox Cities? I love that there is always something to do like in bigger cities, but yet we still have a lower  cost of living.

The last book you read: Guns, Germs, and Steel

Last movie you watched: Ready Player One

Any hidden talents? I’m great at trip-planning! My husband and I like to book cheap flight deals when we spot them, and then I figure out the details after. We’ve had some great trips that way! My favorite was the Swiss Alps.

What can’t you live without? Dogs, books, Netflix, a camera

What’s the biggest risk you ever took? As a freshman in college, I signed up to study abroad in London. I’d never been out of the country before, and I didn’t know any of the other students going. As an introvert, it was terrifying, but so worth it!

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live,” -Albus Dumbledore

Describe your perfect Saturday: Sleep in, have coffee while reading for an hour or two, hit up an estate sale with my husband, have lunch with friends, afternoon spent thrifting or shopping at Home Goods, then back home for a movie night and take-out from Zaroni’s with my husband and dogs.
