The Neville Public Museum’s dinner program informs and entertains.

In 1996, Zeta Turiff and Donna Osen, both very involved Green Bay community members, developed the Neville Public Museum’s dinner program and marketed it towards a senior audience. Their dream of continuing education in retirement has become a reality for many in Northeast Wisconsin over the last few decades, and persists today.

The program, a series that runs approximately every third Thursday from September through April, includes a catered dinner followed by an informative, yet entertaining program.

The dinner, which commences at 5pm, is provided by Renard’s catering, based out of Green Bay. Buffet spreads vary according to the theme of the presentation, but include meat, potatoes, salad, dinner rolls, dessert and decaf coffee. The semi-buffet spread includes “fluff,” the ubiquitous jello salad that is a running crowd favorite.

Programs encompass a wide variety of cultural and historical topics. Upcoming presentations include “Prohibition” on February 21, examining the movement’s impact on the Fox Valley, a performance from a group of Hmong dancers on March 14 and a look at the life of Harry Houdini on April 11.

In addition, the museum includes a few exhibit-related events. Matt Welter, the curator of education at the museum, says that he likes to tap into the museum staff for some of the programs. Welter explains that by aligning some of the presentations with exhibit schedules, participants can peruse the exhibit before or after the staff member gives their presentation, further educating themselves on the given topic.

Registration forms are available online, but are only accepted by mail. The 132 spots per event fill up quickly, but there is a waiting list, so if a topic interests you sign up ASAP! Call 448-7874 or go to nevillepublicmuseum.org for more information.
