A new fundraiser for the Friends of Oshkosh Public Library will celebrate the freedom to read, access information and express ideas without censorship, during an after-hours event for all ages.

In the Night Library will be under the Dome at the library. The event marks the end of national Banned Books Week.

Every year there are efforts across the nation to restrict or ban books. Public libraries join with teachers, publishers, journalists and readers of all types in support of the freedom to express ideas and the value of free and open access to information. “Access to diverse ideas makes all of us more powerful,” explains Nancy Ebert, President of the Friends of Oshkosh Public Library. “Everyone has the right to choose what they want to read and to explore ideas – even those that are unpopular or unorthodox. No one should be able to restrict that right just because they personally disagree with what’s being expressed.”

There is no admission fee, but the Friends of the Library are encouraging donations to help support library programs.
