Alexandra Socarides, author and associate professor of English at the University of Missouri, examines the many works by female poets from the 1800s, such as “America the Beautiful” and “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” that have endured and impacted society on issues as diverse as childhood, war, nationalism and religion. She also will discuss the recent rewriting of Emma Lazarus’ “The New Colossus” in response to President Trump’s position on immigration. Free and open to the public.
