Throughout my entire education in my hometown of North Fond du Lac, the only subject that I ever enjoyed was English. But when I entered college, I had to figure out how to turn my passion for writing into something that could potentially lead to a career one day — so, that’s when I decided on journalism with a writing/editing emphasis. I’m so happy with my choice, and I love all the awesome opportunities I’ve had during my past three years at UW-Oshkosh because of my major.

One of the best opportunities I’ve had at UW-O has been working in the Admissions Office on the

GO2UWO Social Media Team. I have learned so much and I get to take part in tons of fun activities (i.e. singing and dancing in videos, running a Facebook page, writing blogs about campus and the community, etc.). This year, our big project was the production of a music video, which I got to be a part of. I sang a few songs, starred in a few video shoots and even played saxophone! This was right up my alley because I have a long-time passion for music.

I started playing piano when I was 5 years old, but didn’t pick up the saxophone, guitar and ukulele until my teen years. I sing all the time (probably more than my roommates appreciate) and enjoy a good folk or bluegrass tune. Recently, I’ve been working on overcoming my stage fright by performing at open mic nights at local cafes. I’m generally nowhere near shy when it comes to being in the spotlight and in front of crowds, but there is something about being in an actual spotlight that makes me want to run and hide.

When I’m not singing (which isn’t often) or partaking in some sort of musical activity, I enjoy being outdoors. I like to go on bike rides and hikes whenever possible, as well as kayak with my grandma on Lake Winnebago. Mini-adventures to state parks or small lakes are always some of my favorite things to do in the summer, but I’m always itching to go on some larger-scale adventures. Luckily, I have post-graduation plans to travel to a few countries in Europe next summer, and I don’t plan on stopping there. Australia, Peru, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil … I want to see everything! My dream job is to travel the world and write for National Geographic Magazine. Dream big, right?

I love learning about different people and cultures, whether it be in my own state or in different countries. I can’t wait to explore the Fox Cities this summer and share all that I discover!
