Intern Intro: Sonia

Introducing our new intern Sonia, a senior at UW-Oshkosh who has a serious sushi obsession. (She will fit in perfectly.)

The Basics

Name: Sonia Zimmerman

Hometown: Sacramento, CA

University attending/year in school: UW Oshkosh, senior

Favorite thing about the Fox Cities: It’s like a little “big” city. There are many amenities that big cities offer, like the Fox Cities P.A.C., the downtown area and the mall, but it’s still small enough to run into friends when running errands. I also enjoy the large selection of restaurants!

The Dirt

What is your favorite quote? “The only way to have a friend is to be one.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson

Favorite book? Fiction: Interview with a Vampire, Anne Rice. I’ve always loved vampires and read this book many years ago, but it is still my favorite. Non-fiction: Anatomy of the Spirit, The Seven Stages of Power and Healing, Caroline Myss. This book gives a lot of insight into spirituality and human nature. It really made me take a closer look at myself and forgive the negative behaviors of others.

Biggest guilty pleasure? A glass of wine and sushi, sushi, and more sushi! I just can’t get enough.

Most played song on your iPod? Free, by Marcus Miller feat. Corinne Bailey Rae

If you could have any super power, what would it be? I would want the ability to read minds. People sometimes don’t tell the truth and it would be nice to know when I’m being lied to!

If you could be any fictional character, who would it be? I would be Katniss Everdean from the Hunger Games. She’s so tough and loved by everyone without expecting or demanding it.

If I could meet anyone, living or dead, who would it be? Adam Sandler. He is my favorite comedian and I love to laugh. I think he would be a fun person to meet.

What do you hope to do after this internship? I am hoping to succeed in getting a job with a successful magazine. I am willing to travel if I have to.

What’s your dream job? My dream job would be editor-in-chief of a major magazine. I also want to incorporate photography and travel into my future career.

Write your memoir is six words. Fierce but fragile, observant, determined survivor.

At what age did you consider yourself and adult? Well, I’m 30 now and still waiting for my official “adult” badge of honor!

Hidden talents? I’m a cat whisperer… Oh wait, I just whisper to my cats. That may not be the same thing!

One interesting fact: I am a huge animal lover. I have two cats and don’t eat meat. I even avoid killing bugs if I can.
